These are some photos that I took recently. I think fall is a time of year to get outside and enjoy the unique scenery. I think it would be a great time to do some nature-walk type of activities with a class, which could be used for many different subjects.

The top picture is from my parent's house, by the side gate for the field where we kept horses. The two other photos are taken at Wilkins Park.

  1. I love the beauty of nature. Nature walks are a great way to engage students in all sorts of subjects. I really like the second picture, taking it from such a perspective so close to the ground was a nice touch.

  4. Any of these photos could be shared with students to invite them to appreciate the changing of the seasons and also to talk about what makes this photo a beautiful image. The second photo would be great for a lesson on foreground, middle ground, and background - note how the closeness of the rocks makes them look bigger than they are, compared to the trees that are more distant. The first photo makes me think of impressionist painters - there are scenes that are best captured with blurrier lines and shapes than by trying to draw/paint every blade of grass, like this one could be. The third photo is amazing - really captures the mood of the single standing dead tree. What part of the photo draws our eyes to it? That's a chance to talk about where you put an image on the page - in the middle, off to the side, and so on. Great photos - lots of ways to use them in lessons and to inspire kids to take their own photos, which is so easy now because of the technology of cell phones and digital cameras.
